Carriers are suspending the strike after the low impact

Date:

The conveners allude to a campaign of “harassment and demolition” by trade unions, transport associations, the media and some politicians to discredit the mobilizations

The airlines calling for the indefinite strike withdrew just one day after it began. In a statement, the National Platform for the Defense of the Transport Sector confirms that the strike has now been suspended. The mobilization has not had the expected follow-up and both the roads and the logistics centers have functioned “absolutely normal” during the days of Monday and Tuesday, industry sources say.

But from the Platform’s board of directors, they argue that the reason for the suspension is the campaign of “harassment and demolition” by shippers, associations of the National Transport Committee (CNTC), trade unions, some media and some of the policies to “deliberately try to discredit as much as possible the mobilizations announced by the Platform”.

The critical lorry drivers demonstrated through the streets of Madrid yesterday, some 3,000 people according to police estimates, and later met in the parking lot of the Metropolitano stadium – where many had parked their vehicles – to evaluate the first day after no just a member of the Department of Transport to meet them yesterday.

At 1:30pm on Tuesday, they sent a statement to the media assuring they have received “thousands of calls” from colleagues denouncing the “disproportionate threats from their loaders” not to support the strike. After the “exemplary demonstration” on Monday, they point out that today they have faced “unimaginable persecution, intimidation and coercion” by various authorities where “the right to strike is not respected”.

In this sense, they explain from the platform that they cannot expose their people to such a scenario, although they will continue to “defend and fight” for their interests. “No one is going to break us,” the Platform concludes in its statement.
