“A milestone” – e-prescription: buy medicines with a smartphone code

Date:

The e-prescription, which can be redeemed with a smartphone, should work throughout Austria by the end of June. As a next step, it should also be valid abroad and used by more private doctors.

Prescribing medicines manually on paper is now a thing of the past in most practices. “With the introduction of the e-prescription, the entire prescription process, from dispensing and redemption to invoicing, will be digitized,” explains Peter Lehner, President of the Conference of Social Insurance Institutions.

Just like in Corona times, recipes are stored on the e-card. Patients can then redeem the medication with a QR code in the smartphone app. If you do not have such a mobile phone, you can use a twelve-digit code, which you can get from a mobile phone, for example. B. can be announced by the receptionist by phone or sent by email. If all this is too complicated for you, you can get a printout from the doctor. The pharmacies can also see the prescription on the e-card and hand it over accordingly.

82 percent of panel doctors and 93 percent of pharmacies are already connected, the rest should be ready by the end of the month. Private doctors can also join the system.
