A judge blocks a website that illegally copies books and newspapers

Flipax2.net “illegally” gave access to nearly 1,700 publication headers, according to CEDRO, which promoted the legal action

The Central Court of Administrative Disputes has authorized the blocking of access to the https://flipax2.net page that allowed users to gain unauthorized access to more than 1,500 book titles and nearly 1,700 periodicals (newspapers and magazines). The decision was based on a request from CEDRO – the association that represents the interests of authors and publishers – to the Intellectual Property Commission of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

“At CEDRO, we continue our fight against digital piracy and try to stop illegal practices like this. It’s always good news that our anti-piracy team is allowed to block one of the illegal pages that we persecute on a daily basis,” explains Jorge Corrales, CEO of CEDRO.

The trial began with a request from CEDRO to the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the reinstatement of intellectual property rights violated by the page, which offered links to illegal copies of books, newspapers and magazines, without the necessary permission, in order to download a large number of text works.

After verifying that the reported page infringed intellectual property rights, on March 29, 2022, the 2nd Department began proceedings to indemnify the rights that may have been infringed, culminating in the court decision of May 26, prohibiting the interruption of the services of the information society carried out by the canceled page and the blocking of said website.

“These illegal practices directly affect the authors and publishers of books, newspapers, magazines and sheet music.” “Our goal is to make the web a safe place for authors and publishers. We are working to make the written culture sustainable,” added Corrales.

“As a result of the resolution, which is not yet final, Spanish ISPs must block access to any web domain that the person responsible could use, or redirect to that page. As well as all those proxy websites that act as intermediaries to access the previous one. In the event of non-compliance, they may face the sanctions provided for in the Information Society Services Act,” said CEDRO in a statement, which currently has 30,691 writers, translators, journalists and publishers in our country as members.
