A man from West Belfast walked the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
Joseph Jones, from Polyglass, has been living in town for over five years, working as a model and actress.
The 25-year-old entered one of the biggest shows of the week on 9/11 – Tom Brown – and has appeared in huge publications, including Vogue and USA for her best Grace appearance.
Tell Be how he felt while walking on the catwalk and how he “felt like a dreamer”.
Joseph said: “This was my first runway after a nearly two-year hiatus with Covid. March 2020 was our busiest fashion week yet, I just got back from London and Paris Fashion Week and I was so excited for this year.
“Then the boom, the world turned upside down and I lost a lot of opportunities, my apartment and my money. I had to move to New York after living here for five years. It was heartbreaking.
“But I’m back. I’m over the moon now. It’s good to not only know I can still do it, but also to join one of NYFW’s biggest designers/show: Tom Brown after such a long time. It’s exciting.”
He explained how he felt “sad” when Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour sat across from him during the show.
“Anything can happen,” added Joseph, who performs his main job as an actor.
The Belfast man said, “I am an actor first and foremost and always will be. As a kid, modeling was an idea in my head. I didn’t take it seriously until I moved to New York.”
“Three months after crossing the ocean, I found East Village Street. Honestly, New York was the city of my dreams. Anything can happen.
The model also claimed that walking in front of celebrities is something that has never happened before.
He added, “It’s just not an idea that pops into my head. I’m not crazy about celebrities at all. But I’m so grateful I experienced it. Not much they can tell.”
“I am a working-class kid from West Belfast and have been in Vogue, The New York Times, WWD and many others. I worked hard to get here. Despite my denials.
Joseph explained that his experience at New York Fashion Week was “wow”.
He said, “The Tom Brown Show was a huge show, with 63 models.
“I set up in the middle of the garden with lively sculptures and flowers, and open models with a horse-shaped veil, walking down the bike path on farmers’ bikes.
“I am so grateful to be a part of it.
Joseph Pace also told what he would say to his youngest son after he realized some of his dreams.
He added, “People will come out of you to be different, think bigger and want more. Keep moving forward. Your life will not be easy. You will fight a lot and this battle will never stop. But this is a life full of beauty.”
“It is not possible without Ini Yang. Stop thinking about what people think, especially when they are only expressing their insecurities.
“What do you think about worrying. For someone else reading this – do what you want to do. Life is too short to stop you.”
