Anger about Doskozil – ‘You don’t treat each other like that in the SPÖ’

Date:

“Really angry and totally nervous” – says Michael Lindner, leader of the SPÖ state party in Upper Austria, about an investigation commissioned by his Burgenland comrades. In it, respondents declare that the governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, has the best cards in the chancellor election – even ahead of Pamela Rendi-Wagner.

But let’s start at the beginning: how did the argument actually come about? What’s happened so far: On Monday, the SPÖ Burgenland, led by Governor Doskozil, published a poll asking not only topics like the minimum wage, but also how the parties would perform in an upcoming National Council election – with Governor Doskozil as SPÖ chancellor candidate compared to current party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner.

Doskozil at 32 percent, Rendi-Wagner at 27
In the poll by opinion pollster Peter Hajek, the SPÖ is 32 percent below Doskozil and 27 percent below Rendi-Wagner compared to the Burgenland SP regional manager Roland Fürst.

Lindner: ‘No new elections imminent anyway’
The provincial party leader of Upper Austria, Lindner, is apparently less relaxed: By publicly fighting internal party battles, you only betray voters’ confidence, he explained according to “OÖN”. He will also express his dissatisfaction with the federal party board next week: “You don’t treat each other like that in the SPÖ.” The reason why such an investigation is ordered is not clear to him. “There’s no new election coming up anyway,” Lindner said.

The subject of asylum somehow fell by the wayside
However, the subject of asylum, which was also raised in the survey, Lindner would have liked to raise more strongly on the side of the federal SPÖ than is currently the case: “It is a misconception within the party that this subject does not pay for us Lindner emphasized. “For 15 years we have not commented on asylum.” If the SPÖ really wants to claim leadership, it must address all the problems.
