The plenary session of the Congress of Deputies this Tuesday ratified the Royal Decree introducing the latest measures taken by the Spanish government to combat the high inflation caused by the war in Ukraine, including the abolition or VAT reduction in certain staple foods.
The Minister for the Presidency, Felix Bolanoswas responsible for defending this royal decree, approved by 175 votes in favour, 7 against and 164 abstentions, including those of the PP, Vox and Ciudadanos.
In concrete terms, the validation continued with the PP, Vox, ERC and BNG abstaining, while Junts and Teruel Existe voted against and the rest of the House of Representatives positioned themselves in favour.
In addition, its treatment as a bill through the urgent procedure has been agreed almost unanimously, opening the door for changes to be made through amendment. The incorporation into a bill received the support of the entire House, with the exception of Teruel Existe, who abstained from voting.
The decree includes measures such as the abolition of VAT on basic foodstuffs and the reduction of VAT from 10% to 5% for oils and pasta, as well as a check of 200 euros for households with an annual income of up to 27,000 euros and the free in 2023 from under more Cercanías and medium-distance trains.
