The Permanent Social Forum ends its 10-year journey this Saturday with the celebration of its VI Congress in Donostia-San Sebastián. At noon, the central act will take place with a presentation by lawyer and peace mediator Brian Currin and a tribute to all the victims.

Donostia Mayor Eneko Goia opened the Social Forum Congress at the Kursaal at 09:30, where Gerson Arias, coordinator of the FIP’s Dynamics of Conflict and Peace Negotiations room, opened the day with a conference on the Colombian reality of reconciliation under the title “truth, justice, reparation and non-repetition”.

History of the Permanent Social Forum
The first Bake Foroa, organized by Bake Bidea and Lokarri, took place in Biarritz in December 2012. Subsequently, in 2013 and 2014, the first two “Social Forums to Promote the Peace Process” were organized in Bilbao and Iruñea-Pamplona, also promoted by Lokarri, Bak Bidea and other entities.
After Lokarri decided to end his career in 2015, the III Social Forum was held in January 2016, focusing on disarmament. With the impetus of that III Social Forum, a thought process started in Gernika, that may shape the “Permanent Social Forum”.. It was presented in October at the Palacio Aiete in Donostia, as part of the 5th anniversary of the International Conference for Peace.
It is composed of individuals and various social organizations: (ELA, LAB, CCOO, Steilas, ESK; Ahotsak, Bake Bidea, Baketik, Paz con Dignidad; Sare, Etxerat, Egiari Zor Fundazioa; Gernika Batzordea; Bilgune Feminist, Herri Eliza, Antxeta Irratia and Hitz&Hitz).
Since its creation, and with the aim of consolidating a consensus that would allow decisive steps to be taken, it has, mainly through the organization of social forums, made recommendations on disarmament, prisoners, victims’ rights, democratic coexistence or memory. It has also contributed from the “Hitzorduak” meeting spaces and has provided itself with several intervention programs.
