The Gipuzkoa court houses a police line-up in connection with the Pasaia ambush

39 years after the murder of four members of the Autonomous Anti-Capitalist Commandos in the port of Pasaia at the hands of the National Police, the Provincial Court of Gipuzkoa is today organizing a recognition wheel -seven police officers will participate – whose goal is to identify one of the officers who could have participated in the massacre.

The only one to survive the massacre, Joseba Merino, believes he recognized some of the police officers who took part in those events; He confirms that he recognized one of the police officers in a documentary broadcast on TVE. Therefore, the Gipuzkoa Provincial Court decided to reopen the case and called on Merino to participate in the recognition round.

It happened on March 22, 1984 in Pasaia Bay, around 10:30 PM. After the assassination of socialist leader Enrique Casas in 1984, Dioni Aizpuru, José Mari Izura, Rafa Delas and Pedro Mari Isart, members of the Anti-Capitalist Autonomous Commands, were shot dead by the National Police. Nearly four decades later, no one has yet been brought to justice for those events. Merino served 17 years in prison for Casas’ murder.

On the occasion of the lineup, the relatives of the murdered will hold a rally in front of the Gipuzkoa court today at 10 am under the slogan “Investigate and clarify the Pasaia massacre”.
