He Galdakao PSE-EE has demanded the municipal government team – consisting of EH-Bildu, Auzoak, Usansolo Herria and Podemos – to immediately remove the names from the “Galdakao Oroimena” website ETA members “to those who are presented as victims and they are recognized as victims of serious human rights violations”.

In a statement, the socialist councilor in the municipality of Víctor Trimiño explained that after learning of this situation, the socialists sent a letter “to the mayorto the Aranzadi Society who participated in the development of this website, and the rest of the parties that are part of the government team” asking them to “withdraw the names and images of ETA members appearing on the page, such as Xabier Garcia Gaztelu or Jon Bienzobasconvicted of several murders, “without having done anything to date to remedy this injustice.”

“What happened is unjust because reality is distorted and distorted, it is unjust because on that website, along with the victims, the killer names. It is an insult to the victims of terrorism and Francoism and it is also a lie that the members of ETA who appear there are victims,” he said.

As Trimiño recalled, last February the Galdakao City Council presented the “Galdakao Oroimena” web page with the aim of “basically all violations of rights crimes committed against citizens of Galdakao”.

Aranzadi says they are not on the list of victims

Those responsible for Aranzadi explained today that Garcia Gaztelu and Bienzobas do not appear in this report as victims of human rights violations, as the PSE-EE denounced today.

The historian Javier Buces, responsible for this research commissioned by the Galdakao City Council, explained that the names of both residents are included in a space “completely separate”including the “people affected by other acts of political motivationand where “penitentiary policy and the application of waivers” are collected.

The inclusion of this particular section is, in his words, a response to the “debate” that has opened up various town halls Basques and the general “consensus” about the need to “create a more comprehensive project” that considers cases that have not been investigated.
