The trial for false statements against Sebastian Kurz continues today. The former ÖVP chancellor is being questioned for the first time – krone.at reports live.
- Kurz has his say in detail today: ex-cabinet head Bernhard Bonelli, who is also accused of making false statements, will not testify until Monday.
- No witnesses have been called for the time being. They will not be questioned until later hearings from November, which have yet to be determined.
- The distraction made the first defendant, Bettina Glatz-Kremsner, the first surprise of the trial. This may have consequences for the further procedure.
-
Because the WKStA made an embarrassing mistake in the criminal complaint, the ÖVP wants to involve Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens).
- With his press statement at the start of the trial on Wednesday, Kurz broke a taboo. Ida Metzger analyzes that he acts as if he is still Chancellor.
These are the accusations
After former casino boss Bettina Glatz-Kremsner, who was also accused of making false statements, took up the diversion offer on the first day of the trial, the trial against Kurz and Bonelli was dismissed and is now being heard separately. In concrete terms, the two suspects are accused of providing false testimony as informants for the U-Commission in connection with the establishment of the state holding company ÖBAG and the appointment of the board of directors and the supervisory board of this company. Kurz is said to have downplayed his role in this. Both deny this.
