In twelve months, Austria will have already chosen a new composition of the National Council. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) wanted to increase the retirement age last year and, as usual, commented humorously on Kickl’s view of the People’s Chancellor. “Krone” editor Ida Metzger met him for an interview.
“Kron”:There is a budget gap of 20.9 billion euros. Economist Badelt views the development as problematic. Is that sustainable? Is it necessary to have a mountain of debt?
Werner Kogler: The absolute numbers don’t help at all. It is always about comparison with economic performance and we are consistently at 2.7 percent, which is well below the Maastricht criteria of three percent. But yes, it will be the case that the shortages reach this level. Conversely, in times like these, especially this year, we felt it was completely wrong to make cuts.
