tax evaded? – Wirtschaftsbund Vorarlberg: ex-boss shows up

Date:

According to a media report, the former director of the Vorarlberg Economic Association, Walter Natter, has turned himself in. Natter is said to have transferred insurance premiums for himself from Wirtschaftsbund accounts between 2014 and 2016 and booked the payments under false titles. Natter would have admitted that he was guilty of tax evasion.

Under Natter, who retired in 2017, constructs were made regarding the now defunct Wirtschaftsbund newspaper “Vorarlberger Wirtschaft”, which is currently heavily criticized and investigated from a wide range of angles – including finance – reports the “Standaard”. Natter would have been paid 72,000 euros for tax-free reimbursement of insurance premiums. Natter said he had deposited the evaded tax amount into his tax account at the time of writing his letter.

Car “taken for free in the guest house”?
It is still unclear whether Natter “took a car to the guest house for free,” the report said. At the end of his tenure, he was given a vehicle from the Economic Association, for which Natter is said to have received a claim of 33,000 euros. It is unknown if this was ever paid. According to the examiners, the book value of the car was about 49,000 euros.

At the end of April, the Feldkirch prosecutor’s office received criminal charges from the financial authorities for tax evasion in the Wirtschaftsbund case. One of the suspects is probably Natter, but there is no confirmation of this.
