EH Bildu denies that the agreement on the ‘Gag Law’ “leaves the officers unarmed”

Date:

The spokesman for the sovereigntist coalition in Congress claims that the PP regime has “given many more privileges to the security forces” and “eliminated the rights of citizens.” The new law, he confirms, will be “more respectful and with many more guarantees.”

EH Bildu’s spokesperson in Congress, Mertxe Aizpurua, has denied that the agreement reached with the Spanish government on the ‘Gag Law’ suppose a “disarmament” to the police, who ‘have at their disposal lots of riot gear to be able to do the work that comes with it,” apart from the rubber balls.

The pact announced yesterday will, among other things, put an end to the use of this material and reduce the punishment for disobedience and disrespect for officers. The executive branch and several groups of the investiture bloc plan to present this Friday a non-legal proposal, which, if it receives the necessary support, will become a new law on the freedoms and security of citizens.

National Police unions and Civil Guard associations yesterday agreed to reject the proposal, recognizing that it “unprotects” officers and “undermines” the principle of authority.

When Aizpurua was asked about this in an interview with RNE, he emphasized that the rubber balls “They cause a lot of damage, they’re at a lot of risk, they’re untraceable, it’s very difficult to track where they go once they’re activated.” As he recalled, they are not banned in Euskadi, but the Ertzaintza does not use them “after some unfortunate events that happened, the last one was that of Iñigo Cabacas.”

Regarding the reduction of possible sanctions for disrespect for authority and disobedience, he recalled that the ‘Gag Law’ provided:many more privileges for the security forces”and eliminated “citizenship rights” and created “defenselessness.” As he specified, with the application of this rule, a large number of fines have been imposed “for things like a bad appearance, a pin that a certain police officer doesn’t like, a protest T-shirt that he doesn’t like either.” ”

For example, he has defended that the new law will “guarantee and protect the rights of citizens” because it “modulates, regulates and changes numerous aspects of the 2015 regulation”.

Finally, he referred to the statements of the spokesperson in the House of Representatives, Miguel Tellado, who assured that the FSE “will be in the hands of whoever has on their lists those who killed them.” According to Aizpurua, the PP “will one day have to assume that we are a party like any other, democratic, where many people vote for us, and more and more.”
