The federal government starts to save itself. 1.1 billion euros must be found. While most ministries are still covered, Spö Boss Andreas Babler is progressing and gives first insights into possible savings plans.
The Easter rest of the coalition was already over this week. Next week the negotiations about the necessary savings will be made in the budget. No less than 1.1 billion euros should be saved in the ministries. In some cupboards you can hear from government circles, but you should also have abandoned savings plans during Lent. Not mentioned in the Ministry of Culture by Spö Boss Andreas Babler.
The gaping budget hole must lead to cultural cuts. The planned barrier -free foyers in the Natural Historical and Art Historical Museum, the future underground foyer of the Belvedere and the renovation and general renovation of the festival houses in Salzburg can be delayed, for example. Because the “crown” of the ministry is confirmed, all projects must be implemented, but the time horizons must be picked again.
Babler wants to “make a contribution”
“If we are talking about the fact that everyone has to make a contribution, this also applies to my departments. Whether it is allowed to talk about spending cuts will eventually be seen, but there will have to be a contribution,” said Spö Boss Babler. There will be clarity, also in the other ministries, probably only after the budget speech on 13 May.
