Minister in the first government of Pedro Sánchez, the man from Almería has died after a long illness at his home in Madrid. His most famous stage was the one that led him to the Reina Sofía Museum.

The one who was the Minister of Culture and Sports Jose Guirao passed away at the age of 63 at his home in Madrid after a long illness. The cultural manager was appointed Minister of Culture by Pedro Sánchez in 2018, a position he held until 2020.
Born in the town of Pulpí in Almeria, he held the position of director of the Reina Sofia National Art Museum between 1994-2000, and had joined the Montemadrid Foundation in 2001 to work on the opening of a new socio-cultural center, La Casa Encendida, which was inaugurated at the end of 2002.
In 2013, the man from Almeria was appointed General Manager of the Montemadrid Foundation, a position he held until June 2018 when he was appointed Minister of Culture and Sport. He returned to this foundation in 2020 after a visit to the Ministry of Culture. At the end of 2021, he informed the board of his decision to leave the board of the Foundation, a position held by Amaya de Miguel in April of this year.
In his role as a special project consultant, he had spent much of his time in recent months on the restoration project of the Palacio de la Música on Madrid’s Gran Vía.
The vigil will remain open from 4 p.m. next Monday at the San Isidro funeral home, where a funeral will be held for family and friends at 12 noon Tuesday, after which he will be cremated.
