Sainz, to turn the page: “I’m one of the fastest and that’s what keeps me motivated”

Date:

Carlos Sainz want to return the page Mexican F1 GP. The Spanish pilot came from a bitter abandonment United States because of a touch on the first corner of George Russell and after that he only thinks about returning to his Ferrari F1-75 to maximize his race results.

“It’s not easy, but it’s true that when it’s not your fault it’s easier to melt. How disappointed you are on Sunday, especially when it’s your fault. Your frustration is out of control. But life always teaches the mine to focus on the next race, which ends up coming,” said the Spanish driver in the run-up to the Mexican F1 GP, at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome, in statements published by ‘DAZN F1’.

“The good thing is that we have speed. I would be more worried if, above all, I didn’t have speed. But I’m one of the fastest out there and that’s what keeps me motivated and positive.”, he added, sending a message of strength after the pole he won in the United States. The Spaniard will be fighting this weekend for the best result after Austin’s bad luck, but could start with more difficulty than his leading rivals as he may have to change the combustion engine and suffer a grid penalty for it.

Mercedes, in the fight

In addition, Carlos Sainz referred to the improvement of Mercedes, which showed a new package in Austin, without rejecting the idea that in the last races of the year the stars, including Hamilton and Russell, can fight for victories against Red Bull and Ferrari. “There are options for six drivers to fight for victory. It could be interesting,” he said. “We could be looking at one of the most competitive weekends, unless one of the teams adapts to the altitude better than the others,” It ends with a track at an altitude of 2,285 meters, an important factor in Mexico. On this track, the air is approximately 25% less dense.

Altitude, key to Mexico

The height of Mexico directly affects the effort of the pilots, because they breathe less oxygen with each breath of air and this implies a greater effort to receive the necessary oxygen in their body. But it also affects single-seaters, especially the engine. The turbo needs to increase its performance to provide more air to the engine. And that extra effort also means more cooling. But with lower air density, achieving good cooling is more complicated, and this difficulty not only affects the engine, but also other elements such as brakes or gearbox.

Another element that is clearly influenced by the lower air density is the aerodynamic load. At higher altitudes, the downforce of any vehicle is lower, so the teams must opt for high-downforce car configurations, such as Monaco, Singapore or Hungary, to achieve a lower level of aerodynamics compared to these mentioned GPs. On this track, despite carrying a high-load package, the speed reached by the cars exceeded 350 km / h on the straight. The lower the air density, the lower the resistance to the car’s development.
