Nico Terol and Sergio Gadea, new tandem in the Aspar Team

Date:

Valencian former driver Sergio Gadea will captain Aspar Team Junior from the 2023 season, filling the gap left by the team’s new sports director, Nico Terol. The one from Alcoi will cover the loss of Gino Borsoi who has assumed new responsibilities at the head of MotoGP’s Prima Pramac Ducati after being the right hand of the structures of Jorge Martínez Aspar for the last 17 years.

Gadea will oversee the activities of the team’s young drivers, who will compete again next season in the European Talent Cup, JuniorGP and Red Bull Rookies Cup, and will offer all his experience to contribute to the training of the next ones World Championship driver.

Gadea completed the best years of his racing career with the Aspar Team between 2004 and 2009 in the 125cc category. In those six seasons, the rider from Puçol (Valencia) achieved three wins, 15 podiums, two pole positions and two fifth-last positions in the 125cc classification. Surprisingly, he left the squad in 2010 to make room for Nico Terol himself, who that year fought Marc Márquez for the crown and in 2011 became the last world champion of 125cc displacement.

Nico Terol has been at the helm of Aspar Team Junior for the last six seasons where the team has won three Moto3 Junior World Championships (Raúl Fernández, Izan Guevara and Dani Holgado), a European Talent Cup (David Alonso), a Red Bull Rookies Cup (David Alonso) and two Spanish championships, in addition to training and bringing a dozen drivers to the World Championship.

“We finished an incredible season at all levels, but the Aspar Team continues to work on the future and I am happy to announce that Sergio Gadea has joined our Aspar Team Junior project to continue working with the base riders . After a year in which we fought for the title in the European Talent Cup and the JuniorGP almost to the end, in 2023 we will do it again with a line-up that we will announce soon. Since 2016 there have been seven championships we achieved with the Aspar Team Junior and the twelve riders we brought to the World Championship and we are sure that the work of Sergio Gadea, like that of Nico Terol, will allow us to continue to shine”, explained Jorge Martínez Aspar in team statement.

“I am very happy to be part of the Aspar Team Junior project and to be able to work with Nico Terol. We rode together in the same team during our time at CEV, then we were rivals in the World Championship, but we always maintained a friendship and I thank you for trusting me. I am sure we will have good results. For me, Jorge and the Aspar Team are still my family and I am happy to be able to do my bit”, commented Gadea.
