My Lydiawinner of three titles of LPGA and another nine top-5s in 2022, returned this Monday to the world number 1 in women’s golf after five years. The New Zealand player surpassed the American in the ranking Nelly Korda.
This is the third time that Ko, who has won 19 times on the American tour, has ascended the world throne: he is No. 1 from February 2 to June 14, 2015 and from October 2015 to June 2017, 104 weeks in total .
“I’m very grateful to be another world No. 1. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I will ever be that again,” admitted Lydia Ko, 25.
The New Zealander was just 17 when she ascended to the top spot in 2015 and became the youngest player, male or female, to claim the world golf throne.
Among her successes this year, Ko won the largest prize money in women’s golf history, $2 million, after winning the CME Group Tour Championship end of the season.
Ko finished as No. 1 on the LPGA and was selected as player of the year for the second time in her career.
