DS and Penske present the Formula E DS E-TENSE FE23 Gen3

Date:

DS Automobiles will fully enter an important milestone in its history within the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. After the Gen2 season (2018-2022) marked by the records obtained by the French premium brand of the Stellantis group, achieved during this period (10 victories, 15 pole positions, 28 podiums), and two driver’s titles (2019 and 2020) and two team titles (2019 and 2020), now presents the DS E-TENSE FE23.

The third generation 100% electric single-seater, which will sport a new “black and gold” livery, perfectly embodies the codes of DS Automobiles and represents a huge technological leap.

The FE23 features several significant changes compared to its predecessor. The Gen3 cars are the fastest ever seen in the Formula E World Championship, with a top speed of 280 km/h, while being 60kg lighter than the Gen2. However, the most important thing is its efficiency: more than 40% of the energy used during a race comes from regeneration during braking.

DS E-TENSE FE23 is also more powerful (350 kW instead of Gen2’s 250 kW) and has 4 regenerative wheels. A new front powertrain adds 250kW to the 350kW at the rear, doubling the Gen2’s regenerative capacity for a total of 600kW. Finally, thanks to the new front powertrain, the Gen3 is the first Formula E car without hydraulic rear brakes.

Developed by DS Performance, the racing division of DS Automobiles, the DS E-TENSE FE 23 will be the greatest asset of the DS PENSKE team and its drivers: Formula E world champion Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne, the only Formula E driver history it has won the title twice.

Bolstered by its new partnership with PENSKE AUTOSPORT, DS Automobiles remains committed to more wins and titles, as well as new records in the 100% electric championship which continues to be a vector of acceleration for its research and development work. More than ever, this commitment is an important project for DS Automobiles, a brand that will be 100% electric from 2024

Main features of DS E-TENSE FE23 Gen3:

Performance and efficiency:

Powertrain developed by DS Performance
Maximum power: 350 kW (476 hp)
Top speed: 280 km/h (optimized for urban circuits)

Brakes: The new front powertrain adds 250 kW to the 350 kW generated by the rear under braking. Electric braking system (brake-by-wire) on all four wheels.

The power of energy recovery during braking: 600 kW

40% of the energy used in a race comes from regeneration during braking

Maintenance:

According to the vendor, Gen3 batteries are among the most advanced and durable ever made. They are made with minerals from environmentally responsible sources, while the battery cells will be reused and recycled at the end of their useful life.

Linen and recycled carbon fiber will be used for the first time in the bodywork of a racing car. Recycled carbon fiber is derived from Gen2 thus reducing the total amount of virgin carbon fiber used.

The carbon footprint of the Gen3 is measured from the design stage to document the range of mitigation measures taken to reduce the impact on the environment, while all unavoidable emissions are offset as part of the net zero carbon commitment of Formula E.
