He took his first title in the final round, in a denouement for history that ousted a full 7-time world champion as hamilton. however, Max Verstappen he keeps his second crown. The Dutchman, at the press conference before the award ceremony of FIAassured that he considers his second F1 title “better” and “more rewarding”, winning it in 2022 with great superiority, achieving 15 victories in 22 races, although he considers his first crown as “more emotional” for being able to fulfill a lifelong dream.
“The emotions are different, but I think it should be different. All your life you aim for a specific goal and that is to become the world champion of Formula 1. The first title is always very emotional when you achieve it. But this year (2022) is very different. I think we were more competitive this year and I also think we enjoyed the way we performed as a whole team more. We won the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships. We had a lot of success as a team. So I would say that this (title) is better and more useful, but the first one will always be more emotional.”assured the Dutchman.
“I know I will never make a mistake”
Verstappen ended the year on a big note, but the start of the course was very different. Verstappen began 2022 with two retirements in the first three races due to reliability issues with his Red Bull. His engine suffered and his car wore the tires more than the Ferrari and less. However, Red Bull solved its engine problems and built the car better than Ferrari. Verstappen has had a better weapon than the Italians since before the summer and has been able to take advantage of it, achieving 9 wins in the last 11 appointments. In that sense, Max stressed that after his first two retirements, he knew he couldn’t go wrong.
“I think you know that when you have to fight for a title, you have to score points, basically every race as much as you can. That’s why, of course, at the beginning of the year it was very difficult to have those dropouts. From that moment I knew that I would not allow myself to make a mistake, in case we had an abandonment for any reason. .. so I always try to be as clean as possible and I try to be as perfect as possible every weekend. And that’s what I try to ask myself every time I get in the car,” said Verstappen.
