It looks like Manchester United have found a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. It was Betinho, a player of Sporting de Espinho, from the Portuguese third division, who mistakenly appeared as one of the English club’s players on the Premier League website.
Betinho, a 29-year-old Portuguese striker, appeared on Tuesday as one of the members of the ‘Red Devils’ squad on the Premier’s official website, a surreal mistake that was spotted by the Portuguese press and quickly went viral.
United’s ‘new reinforcement’ has reacted and on his Instagram social network profile he shared his presence in the list of players of the aforementioned website and wrote in English “Thank you Manchester United, see you soon!”.
In addition, he left a message, in Portuguese, to his compatriots playing at Old Trafford: “Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, it’s a pleasure to share a dressing room with you.”
“I only found out it was true when my teammates sent me messages and then I confirmed that my name had indeed appeared on the Premier League website. Today I received more calls than on my birthday ,” Betinho told the Jornal de Notícias newspaper. .
Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Alberto Alves Coelho, better known as Betinho, grew up in the Sporting de Portugal academy and played in the first team. He even played in England, at Brentford, on loan from Sporting, in the 2014-2015 season.
