“Unfortunately Nadal will retire after Roland Garros”

This Monday will start a new edition of the Australian Open, and it will do so with Rafa Nadal as the current champion, seeded number 1 and one of the top candidates for the title. The Spaniard continues at the top of world tennis despite the fact that, every two out of three, comments about his hypothetical retirement follow each other.

“Lately, every time I come to a press conference I feel like I have to retire, it’s like you’re interested in what’s going on.. Don’t continue because I’m here to play tennis and the time has not come for me to retire,” lamented the champion of 22 Grand Slam titles in a press conference at the last United Cup.

And it is that for many years the ‘burying’ of Nadal has become a kind of sport that many people participate in. The last to do it was Alexander Zverevwho ventured to predict the date when the world number 2 would put down the racket.

“Unfortunately Rafael Nadal will retire after Roland Garros. I don’t want it to happen, but I think he’s going to have a great tournament, potentially win it, and get a bye.” assured the German to Eurosport.

“I think Nadal still has a chance to win Roland Garros, and Novak is favorite to win everything else.. But again, there are some guys who have something to say,” said Zverev to complete his forecast for the year 2023 that was asked of him on the sports channel.

On Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev said “he has a chance to win on earth. I think he has the level for that, but it also depends on the other players who are not there in 2022.”
