Marseille, slowed by Monaco, could not finish second

Monaco fought at the Vélodrome and prevented the return of Marseille, who after six consecutive victories in Ligue 1 had to settle for a draw (1-1) achieved by Chilean Alexis Sánchez.

Croatian Igor Tudor’s team has the possibility of reaching second place after Lens failed to get past a draw at Troyes (1-1). But he can’t. The clash between the third and fourth classified in the French competition ended in a draw.

Monaco took the lead thanks to a poor move for their rival. Jordan Veretout’s own goal at quarter of an hour marked the match.

Marseille reacted and cornered their rival, subdued throughout the match. but he only managed to beat Alexander Nubel at the start of the second half thanks to a goal from Chilean Alexis Sánchez. He then looked for the second but was unsuccessful.

Chance for PSG to distance themselves

The score leaves things as before and benefits the leader, Paris Saint Germain, who after the draws of Lens, second to two points, Marseille, third to fourth, and Monaco, fourth to ninth, can extend their distance to first place if they win this Sunday in Rennes.
