The Peruvian tennis player John Paul Varillas advanced to the third round of the Roland Garros tournament after defeating the Spaniard on Wednesday Roberto Bautista in five sets (1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1.
Varillas, ranked 94th in the ATP, started by losing the first two sets to Bautista, the tournament’s 19th seed.
However, a reaction from the Peruvian combined with a downturn in the game of the Spaniard turned the game back and forth, with almost no story in the last two sets, which were resolved by a double 6-1.
Rods will face the winner of the match between Polish Hubert Hurkacz, thirteenth seed, and Dutch Tallon Griekspoor, who have not yet finished, in the third round.
The Peruvian has already made it past the first round in five sets, with an emphatic victory over Chinese Juncheng Shang, his first victory at Roland Garros.
