The Argentinian Diego Schwartzman will return to the top 100 of the ATP ranking after defeating the American on Tuesday Mackenzie McDonald by 6-2 and 6-4 in first round of Queen’s.
schwartzmann, who reached the top 10 in 2020, fell for the first time in nine years to the world’s top ten after losing in the third round of Roland Garros. The man from Buenos Aires is having a nightmare season and has barely won three games since mid-April and in the whole of 2023 he has only eight wins.
However, on grass, the worst place for his game, Schwartzman was able to beat a more rounded rival like McDonald, who had just played the grass Challenger in Surbiton and reached the quarterfinals in s’Hertogenbosch.
In an immaculate game, in which she committed just five unforced errors and did not concede a single break point, Schwartzman achieved the third victory of her career at Queen’s, where she reached the quarterfinals of the 2019 edition.
The Argentine will have a tough second round, against the Scotsman andy murrayfive-time champion in the London club, or against the Australian Alex de Minaurwith the title on top of it, two semifinals and a round of 16 at Wimbledon.
