The first edition of the new 32-team Club World Cup will take place in the United States in June and July 2025, tournament organizer FIFA announced today.
FIFA announced in March that the renewed Club World Cup will be played every four years starting in June 2025 and the Council of the world soccer governing body unanimously chose the United States as the venue for the first edition of the tournament with 32 participants.
The United States will also co-host the World Cup in 2026 with Mexico and Canada, so this new tournament will serve as a test of its stadiums and infrastructure, so it is not ruled out that a match will also take place between Mexico and Canada.
“The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be the pinnacle of elite professional football for men’s clubs,” he said. FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “With the necessary infrastructure coupled with strong domestic interest, the United States is the perfect host to launch the new global tournament.”
Chelsea, Real Madrid and City, safe
The champions of Europe, Africa, Asia, CONCACAF and South America between 2021 and 2024 will participate in the new Club World Cup, thus Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City, the last winners of the European Champions League, have already secured their presence in the tournament.
Europe will have a total of 12 teams and South America will be the only two Confederations with more than four participants. Additional places will be awarded according to the classification of teams according to their results between 2021 and 2014 in continental competitions.
The current version of the Club World Cup, an annual competition involving seven teams, will be played for the last time in December 2023 in Saudi Arabia.
