Pogacar: “Great legs, the perfect mentality”

Date:

the slovenian Tadej Pogacar supports two theories. On the one hand, he maintains that he is not one hundred percent because the wrist injury he suffered in the last Liege-Bastogna-Liege took him out of the necessary filming. But, on the other hand, he maintains that he has “great legs and a perfect mind”.

“I don’t know if I’m here to win the Tour. We’ll see that in the race. It’s true that I train hard, although I don’t compete normally. The logical thing would be to do the Dauphiné or the Tour of Slovenia and I couldn’t. But I have great legs and perfect mentality. I hope I’m ready“, indicated the winner of the 2020 and 2021 editions.

The UEA runner assured that he has not regained all the mobility in the wrist, “it is at 60 or 70 percent”, but this does not reduce his condition on the bike.

“On Monday I had an exam and I have completely recovered three bones, but for the scaphoid it took some timebut it looks good,” said the Slovenian.

Pogacar recognized that the Danish Jonas Vingegaard He is the strong favorite for this edition, but he says that Jumbo is not his only rival for the general classification.

“I’m not aware of his performance, I’m just focused on me and doing our race. There are other teams, but the best thing is to focus on yourself”, he commented.

The Slovenian pointed out that he had learned lessons from last year, when he succumbed to a series of attacks from the Jumbo team.

“Last year the experience was incredible; this year I will try to do better and win. Last year he could have won, but Jonas was better at certain points in the race. I will have to be attentive and concentrate on giving everything I have to try to win,” he highlighted.

“Jonas is the big star, he is the favorite, He showed great dominance in the Dauphiné. He said he is not in his best shape, let’s see what he does on the Tour. I wasn’t in Dauphiné, Adam (Yates) was there and he prepared himself there and was close to Jonas. We believe we can be strong together,” he said.

Pogacar emphasized that he is comfortable sharing the leadership of the team yachtswho will take over in case he suffers an injury and cannot fight for the final victory.

“For me, it’s fine, I’m not one hundred percent, I haven’t done races before the Tour, I lack the training and preparation to be one hundred percent. You have to have a plan B. It’s better to have two riders ready to win the general classification”he pointed out.

Pogacar said that the first two stages in the Basque Country will be “especially tough”, and assured that he will be looking for victory, and the first yellow jersey, if the circumstances arise. “It all depends on how the race goes,” he said.
