Siblings Kevin and Luciano Benavidesfirst and third last Dakar respectively, commented this Friday that they were satisfied with the result of the prologue, where they were both in the ‘top ten’, “but the real stage starts tomorrow”commented the current motorcycle rally champion.
The eldest of the Benavides, ninth in the table after 27 kilometers of the preliminaries, was very happy just to “join” the rally, because a month ago “he was undergoing surgery for a fractured fibula”, so arriving in Saudi Arabia was “a challenge” for him and this first day was good “for releasing nerves.”
For his part, Luciano, who finished fifth, explained that it was a complicated prelude because in a short race “you always have to go all out” and “there is no time to do more than give everything.”
Likewise, he commented The route “is difficult because there are many lines, because the sand was too deep and the bike moved too much”, so he tried to navigate “as smartly as possible”.
“I never felt fluid and comfortablebut I’m happy with fifth position,” said Luciano, who concluded by highlighting that he could choose “a good position” this Friday afternoon for Saturday’s departure to Al Henakiyah, a 532-kilometer stage.
