Mikel Arteta, coach of Arsenaldoubted the introduction of blue cards in football’s near future and said he did not know if “they are ready for that.”
With these new cards, players who commit tactical fouls or protest referee decisions will be punished with a ten-minute ejection. This new protocol will restrict blue cards to fouls that interrupt “promising attacks” or footballers’ protests. Additionally, a player will be kicked out of the match if he receives two blue cards, or one blue and one yellow (and vice versa).
“I don’t know if we are ready for this. We already have a lot of things going at the same time in decisions, in technology… I don’t know if we are ready for that. I hope they try it a lot before introduce it at this level,” he said Friday at a press conference Arteta.
The Basque coach is on the same line as Mauricio Pochettinoof Chelseawho pointed out that it was not “a good idea.” Jurgen Klopptechnician Liverpoolsaid that it was not a “brilliant idea” and that the International Board (IFAB) rarely had a good idea.
What remained on the sidelines became Pep Guardiolawho stated that until it is official he will not give his opinion.
