PSG will face the mighty Olympique de Lyon in the semifinals of the Champions League this Sunday at 4 pm, a day after the result of the rivalry between Chelsea and FC Barcelona. With a 2-3 result, the Parisians had to come back to qualify for the final European competition, a huge achievement that was in stark contrast to the French club’s recent announcement.
And PSG publicized through its networks that it decided to terminate the contract with the Icelandic forward, Berglind Thorvaldsdottir.
The footballer arrived at the French club in the summer of 2022 and now joins Valur Reykjavik (Iceland). An international since the under-17 team, he now has 66 international matches and 12 goals for Iceland.
“Paris Saint-Germain would like to thank Berglind for his two seasons at the club and wish him all the best in his professional and personal life,” he said in a public statement.
Born in Iceland on January 18, 1992, the Icelandic international began his professional career at the age of 15 with Breidablik Kopavogur. He then joined IB Vestmannaeyja for one season before joining the University of Florida in 2012. During his four-year university course, Berglind Björg Thorvaldsdottir also played matches for Icelandic clubs Breidablik and Reykjavik.
After one season at Hellas Verona FC, the striker spent another season at Breidablik Kopavogur and then two season-long loans, at PSV Eindhoven in 2019 and at AC Milan the following season. Between 2020 and 2022, the 30-year-old played for Le Havre AC, Hammarby IF (Sweden) and SK Brann (Norway).
With the Icelandic national team, the new Parisian progressed through the Under-17 and Under-19 formations before being called up to the A team in 2010, to participate in the Algarve Cup. He played his first few minutes when Iceland faced off for the first time in the competition on February 24, 2010 against the United States. Now he has 66 games and 12 goals.
