MotoGP is experiencing one of its sweetest moments in its history. A good start to the season with drivers like Marc Márquez, Jorge Martín, Pedro Acosta and Pecco Bagnaia as the main actors, and a transfer market for the next campaign that is very hot -never better said-, helped the public to follow the current events of the Motorcycle World Championship as it is rarely remembered.
On the track, the great races that took place in the first six Grands Prix of this season 2024 as the most exciting year in history holding data -considering the number of races on Sunday- since the new era began in 2002 in the queen category.
In Qatar, and after 21 laps of the Lusail Circuit, Pecco Bagnaia crossed the finish line in first position, 1.329 seconds behind Brad Binder’s KTM, second. Two weeks later, in Portugal, Jorge Martín celebrated his first victory on the course with a difference of 0.882 seconds over Enea Bastianini after 25 laps at the Portimao circuit.
In mid-April, Maverick Viñales imposed his law after 20 laps of the Circuit of Las Américas and Pedro Acosta finished second, 1,720 seconds behind of Catalan Aprilia. In Jerez, in the Grand Prix that marked the beginning of the European tour of the Motorcycle World Championship, Pecco Bagnaia and Márc Márquez starred in a great battle that favored the Italian by a difference of 0.372 seconds after 25 laps at the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit.
It’s May, and in France, At the Le Mans circuit, Jorge Martín beat Marc Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia by 0.446 seconds difference in a race that was an ode to motorcycling during the 27 laps that lasted the test. This past weekend, and At the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Bagnaia beat Jorge Martín by 1,740 seconds in the lead after 24 laps.
Average time difference between first and second when crossing the finish line, in these first six Grands Prix of the season MotoGP 2024, is 1,083 seconds. This data is tighter than the 1,196 seconds in 2002a year that so far has the closest record between the first two race finishers after the course’s first six races.
