The Serbian Novak Djokovic took a new step on Tuesday in its attempt to enter Wimbledon and beat the American in a practice set Frances Tiafoe.
Djokovic, who had meniscus surgery less than three weeks ago, completed his third training session at the All England Club, the most intensive, with Tiafoe far from 100% due to a fall and subsequent knee problem which he suffered at Queen’s .
The American wore protection on his knee, as did Djokovic, who, however, removed one of his forearms and played with complete freedom.
After an hour of exercise, Djokovic and Tiafoe played a practice set which the Serbian won in a tight tie break 7-6 (5)after 5-5 a touch of the net benefited him and gave him the point and eventually the set.
One from Belgrade celebrated wildly, while Tiafoe sought consolation from the audience and told them “You can’t believe it.”
Always in good spirits, Djokovic aims to be in the Wimbledon draw this Friday and try to regain the crown he lost last year when Carlos Alcaraz beat him in the final.
If he wins a new title here on July 14, Djokovic will equal Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon wins, just one behind Martina Navratilova, in addition to moving away from Margaret Court with just 25 Grand Slams.
