Bautista falls against Shelton and bids farewell to the US Open

Roberto Bautista was eliminated this Wednesday from the US Open after losing in the second round to American Ben Shelton by 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4 in two hours and eight minutes.

The tennis player from Castellón, number 67 in the world, has no margin against a superior rival, 13th in the classification.

Before Shelton, Bautista only received three serves in the entire match, one in each setbut he was unable to achieve a break.

The three sets were very similar, with a break late in each set allowing the American to get through the round with effort but no suffering.

In the first set the ‘break’ came in the eighth game, in the second in the seventh game and in the final set in the ninth service.

Baustista, who knocked out Italian Luca Nardi in the first round, This year he completed his eleventh participation in the ‘big one’ in the United States.

His best results were obtained in the 2014 and 2015 editions, being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, respectively.

With Bautista’s fall, the only Spanish tennis player in the New York tournament is Carlos Alcarazwho this Thursday will face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, 74th in the world, in the second round.
