Atlético Mineiro midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia regretted the team was unable to capitalize on another player’s chance after Gregore was sent off 35 seconds into the first half of the Copa Libertadores final against Botafogo.
“We didn’t know how to take advantage of another player. It was a very difficult defeat, but we died on our feet,” the Argentine told the Brazilian press once the match against Botafogo, current champions of the Copa Libertadores, at the Monumental Stadium, ended already.
The Argentine said that in the second half there were “clear chances” and admitted in tears: “It was a very difficult defeat.”
In an agonizing final, Botafogo beat Atlético Mineiro 1-3 and became Copa Libertadores champions for the first time in its history.
