Bayern Munich has removed the number ‘5’ from its shirts in tribute to the legend Franz Beckenbauer, one of the most famous legends of the club and German football who died on January 7 of this year, as agreed this Sunday by the General Assembly of the entity.
The meeting, devoted mainly to the ‘Kaiser’, included a very emotional speech of the president, Herbert Hainer dedicated to the honorary president of the Bavarian club: “Dear Franz, you made the club what it is today: synonymous with the greatest possible success, unique style and deep humanity. As a player, coach, president and teammate. You gave FC Bayern’s charisma continues to have an impact today.”
“Dear Franz, we miss you. But what remains and unites us is your memory,” said the current president, who noted that Beckenbauer is the greatest personality in the history of the club.
Bayern organized a special exhibition entitled ‘Forever our Kaiser’, with pieces from the career of the former footballer and former coach, some of which gave by his wife, Heidi, who also took the stage, and his son Joel.
In an emotional context Hainer suggests never using ‘5’ again in memory of the legend: “It is destined for a unique legacy, because our club and its history are unthinkable without Franz.”
Support for Kompany
Hainer showed his support to coach Vincent Kompany, whom he trusts to get Bayern back on track for titles, confirmed the renewal of Jan-Christian Dreesen as vice presidents, featured signing as director of Michael Diederich“a top reinforcement”, and praised the women’s and basketball teams.
Also, he announced a record total turnover of 1,017 million euros (it closed the year with a net income of 62.7 million) and 382,000 club members, although the goal, he said, is to reach 400,000 members as a gift for the entity’s 125th anniversary next year.
