Date:

the Kenyans Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich, with a time of 1h01: 05, and Winfridah Moraa Moseti with 1h07: 22 -trial record- won this Sunday in the coldest Madrid Half Marathon (2 degrees at the beginning), which goes back to its traditional date of the first Sunday of April.

Javi Guerra, eighth with 1h03: 32, is the best Spaniard, “returning sensations after negative dynamics in recent months”. The Segovian marathoner, who returned this year to Antonio Serrano’s training group, was alone throughout the race, behind the front group of Africans.

The same place was taken by Madrid’s Azucena Díaz, eighth and first Spaniard with a record of 1h16: 25the best of those over 35 years old.

The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic and last year it had to be delayed until November, when a more favorable route was launched where the best scores were achieved so far: Ronald Kiprotich won in 59:38 and Nelly Jepchumba in 1:07:46.

In this twenty -first edition, on the same route, only the women’s record fell. Cold and fierce winds affected the freezing marks, though Africans did not seem to suffer from the weather.

Kipkemoi and his compatriot Edwin Yator were left alone after covering 10 km in 28:49, a slight 39 seconds slower than intended to break the test record, and together they continued until the last thousand, when, seeing the finish line, Kipkemoi left the rookie. Yator came six seconds later, ahead of Phenus Kipleting, who ended the Kenyan hat-trick in 1:02:34.

Triathlete Javier Gómez Noya, five -time world champion, took advantage of the race as training for the Ironman World Championship, which will take place in May.. The Galician, who has always been in the group where Africa’s best athletes marched, finished in 1h03: 38, his best time in a half marathon. “It was amazing to see them run. For me it was a great training session after a few weeks of very hard work dedicated to the Ironman World Championship,” he commented on arrival.

The women’s race has remained grouped for the longest time. Winfridah Moraa Moseti stuck with the male hare and always led the women’s group, where the most well -known Ethiopians, Almaz Ayana and Gelete Burka, dropped mid -race.

Ayana, Olympic 10,000 -meter champion in Rio 2016 with a world record (29:17), was three years out of athletics, due to the pandemic and her motherhood. Here he lasted just 10 km with the fastest (31:58 partial), although he finished fifth with 1:08:22, while Burka, double world cross-country champion and winner of San Silvestre Vallecana last 2017, will take some more. kilometers.

Moraa lowered the record for the Madrid race by 24 seconds and was accompanied on the podium by his compatriot Sharon Kemboi (1h07: 28), also debuted far away, and the Ethiopian Betelihem Afeginus (1h07: 47).

In the ProFuturo Solidarity Race, held minutes before the 5.8 km route, Cristian Martínez (TrailCantos) won in 18:05 and Francisca Almirón (Club Corredores) in 21:12.
