Isi and Arturo, the reunion of two neighbors in the elite

Ciezano and abaranero. The Rayo Vallecano player wants to “keep improving” in the First Division and the Racing player dreams of “a new promotion” as he has just experienced

A ciezano and an abaranero have used the name of their respective cities in Spanish geography for years thanks to football. They are Isi Palazon and Arturo Molina. The former has been playing for Rayo Vallecano for two and a half seasons, the latter in the First Division. He scored two goals and provided four assists. He is 27 years old and victorious in Vallecas, becoming the eighth ciezano to reach the top tier of Spanish football. Before they did the winger Paco Belló, the interior Luis Belló, the striker Juan Morales, the midfielder Benjamín Ríos, the winger Ortega, the striker Perona and the legendary defender José Antonio Camacho.

Arturo for his part was born in Abarán and is the eldest of four brothers. One of them, Jorge, plays for the Zambú Pinatar futsal team, in Segunda B, and his two sisters, Ana María and Silvia, play for the Abaranera senior handball team. Arturo has spent this last league game for two teams, Fuenlabrada, in Second A, with whom he played 12 matches, and Racing de Santander, 16 in Second B. He has only scored one goal, but has risen to Second. At the age of 25, he is the first abaranero to reach the silver division.

Their parents, Isi and Movar, were also football players and have known each other for over three decades. For example, the two families met a few days ago in the Merendero Los Tanas, in Abarán, where they discussed experiences and anecdotes from so many years. “My father has always been my guide and my idol,” says Isi Palazón, who is “satisfied” with the campaign he has conducted. “It has been a very good season and we have achieved the targets set. We showed that we had a great group and at no time feared relegation,” he says.

Tomorrow Isi will start preparing for the season with his team. “I already want to go back to training and see my teammates again. The challenge is to meet the collective and individual targets to improve the numbers and statistics of the past year,” he says.

His father was also a football player and he was also left handed like him. “I think we play a little bit similar. They say my dad had a better hit than me and we’re only similar in character on the pitch. Unfortunately I have no memories of him as a footballer, but I stay because of what he is like as a person and for his advice in difficult times “says the Rayo player, who has followed his hometown team very closely this year, a CD Cieza who has been promoted to the Third Division. «I have friends who play there and I am also from my CD Cieza. It will always be my team,’ he confesses.

Isi also does not forget his time at Real Murcia. “I have a lot of memories, especially of a lot of colleagues and people I’ve met and they’ve made everything very easy for me. My wish now is to keep improving and consolidating myself in the First Division,” he says.

Meanwhile, Arturo is “rejoicing” in Santander. “The climbing was a unique experience, a day that I will remember for the rest of my life, not only for the climb, but also for the atmosphere generated in the city throughout the week. Friends and family came and we reached the goal of an entire city. I’ve only been with Racing for a short time, but it’s a city and a club that I love. Hopefully we can settle in this difficult year and repeat a promotion, in this case to First Division,” said the medium abaranero.

“I wanted to establish myself in professional football with my signing with Fuenlabrada. But those were tough months and the best option was to get out of there. You never like to go down in category, but going to a club like Racing gives you the opportunity to come back in the near future. I think I’m in the perfect place now to make that leap in quality and make it clear that I deserve to be here,” he says.

Looking back, Arturo regrets the ankle injury he sustained while playing for Real Madrid Castilla. “I was off for four months and I never completely recovered that year in Madrid,” he admits.
