With the cold and humidity, the most common thing right now is windshield covered in ice in the morning
Although it seems obvious, you should always remove this ice before you start the march. While it is common to find drivers starting it, waiting for the heater and windshield wipers to come on,
as they travel many meters twisting the neck and barely seeing what is happening behind the wheel, creating a potentially dangerous situation.
According to the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), experts recommend replacing the wiper blades once a year so that they are always in perfect condition when we need to use the wipers. In addition, it is advisable not to fill the windscreen washer reservoir with water alone in winter to prevent the hoses from freezing and the nozzles from becoming clogged.
The DGT explains via its Twitter account what we should and should never do to remove the ice from the car. So remember that you should never use the vehicle’s heater at a very high temperature or pour very hot water on an icy windshield, as this sudden change in temperature could cause the windshield to shatter.
According to the tests that have been carried out, at an outside temperature of -10 degrees, the glass breaks after 5 minutes due to very strong heating in more than 80% of the cases. At -5 degrees it happens 70% of the time. At 0 degrees, it reaches almost 60%.
That’s not necessary
operate the windshield wipers on that layer of ice because the wiper blades are damaged and leave marks on the glass when it rains, so that we can no longer see properly.
A trick to avoid having to remove the ice in the morning is to put a piece of cardboard on the windshield at night, held with the windshield wipers. To remove the ice, it is best to do this
use a plastic scraper, because it works effectively and does not damage the glass. They are cheap and can be kept in the glove compartment. We can also spray the windshield with alcohol, a substance that melts ice easily.
At this time of year, special attention should be paid to the windscreen due to the low temperatures and difficult visibility.
90% of the information we receive while driving comes to us through sight. And with the cold and humidity, the most common thing right now is that we have the windshield covered in ice in the morning.
