One in seven used electric cars has a counterfeit odometer

Date:

Any electric vehicle can be manipulated because they use the same digital odometer as any other combustion model

The used vehicle market is very large, but the lack of transparency has always been a problem for every buyer. Now, with the entry into this sector of current electricity, the problem they face will be the same. For example, 15.6% of all vehicles in Europe have an increased mileage. And the percentage of misguided electric vehicles is similar: 13.4%. This suggests that buyers of used electric and fossil vehicles are
run almost the same risk of fraud in kilometres.

According to the automotive history of the company carVertical, electric cars are much easier to maintain and at the same time more technologically advanced than diesel and gasoline vehicles. Unfortunately, any electric vehicle can be tricked, as they use the same digital odometer as any other vehicle. In fact, digital odometers are many
easier to manipulate than the mechanics of older vehicles.

A problem that can lead to a bigger problem. Odometer readings are excellent for assessing the condition of a car. Most manufacturers of electric cars give a minimum warranty of 100,000 km on the batteries. However, they can normally last more than 320,000 km. Therefore, a vehicle’s mileage can help determine how much life is left in its battery.

So the problem is that you can’t just trust the mileage as it could be incorrect and reset the computer for battery life as stated by carVertical. Scammers can tweak it in minutes, which means you need to take extra precautions to make sure a car is worth the asking price.

“Depending on the capacity, replacing the battery costs tens of thousands of euros or even half the value of the car. This is the most expensive part of an electric car, although electric cars are generally cheaper to maintain than combustion engine cars,’ he says.
Matas Buzelishead of communications at carVertical.

Similarly, caution should be exercised in accidents, as 43.6% of used electric vehicles have had an accident, minor or serious, that causes deformations in the chassis and transmission, premature corrosion and damage to the batteries of the electric cars. Much of this damage can be repaired, but faulty electric car batteries must be replaced to avoid shortages or a fire hazard. New battery packs are expensive, and some drivers try to sell their vehicle as “accident-free,” as carVertical points out.
