The new Kia Sportage has been carefully designed to set new standards in the SUV segment.

Specifically aimed at the European market, the new Sportage has been carefully designed to set new standards in the SUV segment. It combines a sleek and muscular exterior design with a cutting-edge interior, with an integrated curved screen that houses the latest connectivity technologies.

Developed on a new architecture, the ‘European’ Sportage is the result of an advanced engineering program focused on the old continent. This program has achieved an optimal wheelbase, as well as dimensions and proportions that are ideal for European roads. This meticulous approach has helped to create an SUV perfectly tailored to the needs of European customers, improving functionality and everyday ease of use. Such an advanced package fit for Europe has also resulted in a significant increase in boot, head and legroom over the previous Sportage, with plenty of legroom for second-class passengers.

State-of-the-art hybrid powertrains further enhance the Sportage’s capabilities, dramatically reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. An advanced plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model represents a new first for the European Sportage, with a zero-emission electric mode that can cover most of the daily commute or grocery shopping. The new fifth-generation Sportage also introduces a high-tech hybrid (HEV) and a mild hybrid petrol (MHEV) variant. The latest and cleanest internal combustion petrol and diesel engines are also available, enabling the new Sportage to meet a wide range of customer preferences and needs. The diesel engine can also be combined with MHEV technology, further reducing emissions and fuel consumption.

A first for the Sportage is the conception of the ‘Terrain mode’, which debuts in the fifth-generation Sportage. Developed for drivers seeking outdoor adventures and leisure activities, the ‘Terrain Mode’ automatically adjusts the Sportage’s settings for optimum driving dynamics on any terrain and in all conditions.

The new N3 platform has greatly influenced the dynamic qualities of the new Sportage, combining a refined, stable and comfortable ride with an agile and energetic response. Carefully tuned advanced steering and suspension systems make it possible to combine these values.

To create a dynamic, engaging and optimal driving experience for Europe’s roads, the new Sportage introduces some highly innovative technological developments. A new Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) ensures optimum comfort and a higher level of safety at all times, thanks to continuous damping control. This technology responds quickly to the Sportage’s steering and body movements, making rapid damping adjustments that counteract the lean and roll of the body when cornering.

It also adjusts the damping force to drive comfortably over obstacles and reduce the effect of wheel collision. An electronically controlled four-wheel drive system ensures optimum power distribution between the front and rear wheels, depending on road conditions and driving situations. This not only makes traction more efficient, but also increases safety and efficiency.

A carefully crafted cabin that combines technology and contemporary style. The interior design of the new Sportage reveals a driver-focused space that capitalizes on bold character, smooth textures and technological innovation.

The interior is elegantly designed to combine state-of-the-art technology with luxurious features, premium materials and contemporary styling. At the center of the new Sportage’s avant-garde interior is a beautifully designed integrated curved display with a touch screen, as well as sporty air vents. The curved screen continues over the front, giving the interior a spectacular width and depth.

The technological 12.3-inch (31 cm) touchscreen and the advanced integrated controller act as the nerve center for driver and passenger to control the functions of connectivity, functionality and usability. Both systems are made to be easy to use, very intuitive and smooth to the touch. The 12.3-inch (31 cm) instrument panel features a state-of-the-art TFT liquid crystal display, which generates incredibly accurate and clear graphics. With such advanced and secure high-tech connectivity, the new Sportage has the ability to receive the latest maps or software updates online.

The ergonomic center console is optimally positioned for the driver and front passenger to provide more flexible storage space. For example, at the touch of a button, the cupholders in the center console can be folded away when not needed, giving occupants a larger, more functional area to store items. The center console also houses the distinctive electronic gear selector lever of the gearbox.
