Michael L., a 32-year-old Dutchman, shot eight times at a Viennese businessman (40) in Zell am See in July 2020. A year and a half later, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, including admission to the institution. But now the Court of Appeal has even increased the sentence: life imprisonment.
In a brutal and cold-blooded manner, the Dutchman tried to kill his victim at the beginning of July. The 40-year-old survived only thanks to emergency surgery: he is still in a wheelchair today. These consequences, the nature of the crime and the ten previous convictions of the Dutchman should have persuaded the Senate of the Higher Regional Court of Linz to increase the sentence: instead of 20 years, Michael L. must remain in prison for life.
In addition, the man is considered dangerous: in addition to imprisonment, he is also admitted to an institution for mentally abnormal but responsible criminals. The verdict is now final by the decision of the Higher Regional Court.
