Fire alarm Saturday evening in the old town of Innsbruck: There was a lot of smoke in a residential building. The emergency services were initially unable to locate the source of the fire, and an apartment was even broken into. Finally, the Florianis discovered a charcoal grill on the roof, complete with burnt wooden slats and a case of beer. There were no more people on site.
Shortly before 7.30 pm, the fire brigade was alerted because of the heavy smoke development in the residential building in the old town. “Because there were fears of fire and the smoke smell was clearly perceptible to the emergency services, the fire brigade used a turntable ladder to search for possible fires in the house and also in the other apartments in the adjacent buildings. A door to an apartment also had to be opened,” police said.
Barbecue party on the roof?
But first it was said: none. The source of the fire could not be found. Florianis then went to the roof of the house – and there they found a charcoal grill, a burnt wooden slat and a case of beer.
Rain made it difficult to determine the cause
“We assume that people were on the roof and partying there,” the researchers continued. Because it had started to rain heavily, it was no longer possible to determine whether the charcoal grill had been in operation recently. The exact cause of the smoke development could no longer be determined.
Further investigations are underway. 16 members of the Innsbruck professional fire brigade, the ambulance and the police were deployed.
