The strike in the refineries started on September 27 by the trade union CGT has been the starting point of the social unrest that has ravaged France in recent weeks.

The french left demonstrates today in the Place de la Nation in Paris, from 14:00, against the cost of living and climate change, a protest that represents a new order for the Government of Emmanuel Macronassociated with a refinery strike that has left much of the country without supplies.

This protest, supported by the main left-wing parties except the communists, is a prelude to the national mobilization convened by unions for next Tuesday the 18th, when key sectors of the country, such as transportation or education, could become paralyzed.

La France Insumisa, the main progressive force and the third largest in parliament, the Greens and the socialists among others hope to rally tens of thousands of French people in a protest that has alerted authorities to possible altercations.

The strike in the refineries started on September 27 by the trade union CGT has been the starting point of the social unrest that has ravaged France in recent weeks.

As a result of this shutdown, about a third of French petrol stations are often out of fuel, leaving many motorists without a means of transport amid huge queues and panic scenes to fill their tank.

Although TotalEnergies has reached an agreement with two major unions, the CGT’s refusal to sign the 5% wage increase for workers and technicians keeps the supply of petrol in France under control.
