Wanderer (38) missing – major search on Hafelekar ends with happy ending

Date:

A Ukrainian hiker who, along with her companion, failed to appear at the Seegrube mountain station during a hike in the Hafelekar area sparked an extensive search on Saturday night. Numerous emergency services and the FLIR dragonfly were deployed before the woman appeared several hours later.

At about 6:40 p.m., a Ukrainian reported to the operations manager of the Nordkettenbahnen that her 38-year-old companion, also from Ukraine, had not appeared at the meeting point at the mountain station as agreed. They alerted the emergency services and launched an extensive search. The Innsbruck mountain rescue service was deployed with 15 emergency services and two sniffer dogs, two alpine police and patrol officers, a police drone and the FLIR dragonfly. As it was already dark, all footpaths in the Hafelekar area were searched by the mountain rescue service. However, the search was in vain.

Happy ending in the middle of the night
At around 10:30 PM, the good news came: the missing person had now surfaced safely at her current accommodation, which meant that the search could be ended. “According to initial investigations, the woman stated that she was never in any danger,” police said. In addition, she does not understand why they were looking for her. Due to the operation, the Nordkette funicular had to remain open until 11pm.
