Russian comedians cheat the Polish president by posing as Macron

Date:

Andrezh Duda’s communications office acknowledges that the president was the victim of a phone prank when he answered calls from international leaders after a missile hit the city of Przewodow.

The missile that hit the Polish town of Przewodow on November 15, killing two people, sparked a wave of international reaction. Many world leaders called the Warsaw authorities to express their support and condemnation in response to what happened. This context was used by Russian comedians Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, known as Vovan and Lexus, to play a tasteless prank on the Polish president, Andrezh Duda, through a phone call posing as the head of the French state, Emmanuel Macron. .

Duda’s communications agency acknowledged the existence of the call on Tuesday, the recording of which the comedians published on YouTube. For more than seven minutes, the president is heard talking in English with the fake Macron, who tries to apply a French accent. The Polish leader reveals details of the incident and assures that one is “very careful” about blaming Russia, but that Warsaw will hold security talks with its NATO partners.

“Emmanuel, believe me, I am extremely careful. I don’t want war with Russia,” he told his interlocutor after pointing out that the US president does not blame Moscow for the event, but his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelensky does. “During the conversation, President Andrzej Duda realized that his interlocutor led the conversation in unusual directions, that it could be a joke, and from that moment the conversation ends,” the Polish head of state’s office said on its Twitter profile.

Warsaw authorities are now investigating how Russian comedians managed to bypass security measures to communicate directly with Duda, who was the protagonist of a similar event in 2020. Two years ago, Kuznetsov posed as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, shocking the president with questions about Ukraine, Russia and his recent re-election.

In their long history of prank calls, the two Russians also embarrassed Macron himself, then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as singer Elton John and Prince Harry with similar calls.
