Off the Norwegian coast – 275 people rescued unharmed from workboat

In Norway, 275 people were rescued unharmed by one of the world’s largest workboats. A barge coupled to the boat was in danger of sinking. A steel wire was probably very worn.

The ship “Saipem 7000” had a strong sideways inclination, the “VG” newspaper and Norwegian radio reported Thursday. A steel wire from a crane vessel was probably very worn. As a result, a loud bang was heard and a barge coupled to the boat threatened to sink.

At the time, there were 275 people on board near the western Norwegian city of Stavanger. They were all rescued unharmed by helicopter and boat. Divers were also involved.

The “Saipem 7000” is one of the largest workboats in the world and has two cranes that can lift 7000 tons each. It belongs to the Italian offshore service provider Saipem and has been used since 1987 for work on the open sea, for example when installing wind turbines.
