In eastern Mexico, a pregnant woman has died after two attackers cut her open to steal her unborn child. The heinous act was committed by a man and a woman – reportedly because the attacker is unable to have children of his own. This is the third case in recent years.
The suspects were arrested with a newborn baby in their possession, the prosecutor’s office said. They were brought to court on Monday. The suspects are suspected of kidnapping and femicide.
The suspects lured their victim via social media by promising clothes for the baby, relatives tell local media.
In 2021, more than 3,700 women were murdered in Mexico.
