The police officers were called for an operation in Vienna-Meidling around 9 p.m. because witnesses had heard a woman screaming in the apartment on Längenfeldgasse. The suspect (44) had threatened his own daughter.
“The officer’s door was opened by an aggressive man, who immediately physically attacked a police officer,” said police spokesman Philipp Hasslinger. “The officers then used pepper spray and arrested the 44-year-old.”
Daughter was attacked regularly
The 16-year-old daughter, who had previously screamed for help, was unharmed but showed officers photos of her father’s previous injuries. She stated that the 44-year-old has become violent towards her on a regular basis. An entry and approach ban and a provisional arms ban have been issued against her father. The mother is not allowed to stay in Austria.
Father charged with multiple crimes
The man was still held in police custody on Sunday and his questioning was still pending. He is charged with several criminal offenses – including dangerous threats, persistent use of force, bodily harm and defiance of state authority, Haßlinger reported. The officer attacked by the 44-year-old was not injured.
