The Council of Ministers approves today, Tuesday, the attendance of the Minimum interprofessional salary (SMI) to 1080 euros in 14 payments, agreed between the Spanish government, CCOO and UGT, and has retroactive effect from 1 January.
The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchezconfirmed this weekend in Malaga that the Royal Decree of the SMI would reach the Council of Ministers this week, having completed the hearing and public information period on Thursday 9 February.
The Spanish government thus fulfills its commitment to set the SMI for 2023 at 60% of the average salary at the end of the legislature. In addition, it cannot be ruled out that the government and the social actors review the SMI mid-year in order to adjust it to the price level if necessary.
He touristic sector Spanish will be one of the main beneficiaries of this increase. In the case of workers possibly and temporarily whose services to the same company do not exceed 120 days, the amount of salary should not be less than the €51.15 per legal working day.
For the domestic staff who work per hour, the hour worked will be paid in 2023 to €8.45the result of including all reward items, extraordinary bonuses, breaks and holidays.
This 8% increase is the highest since 2019, when the Spanish government revalued this minimum income by 22.3%. In 2020, the increase was 5.6% and was extended through 2021, until a new increase of 1.6% was approved in September of that year, applicable from the 1st of that month through December 31, 2021. In 2022, the SMI an increase of 3.6% and stood at 1,000 euros in 14 payments.
Pedro Sánchez met this Monday with two young teachers of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage at the address of both in Parla, where they discussed their “projects and concerns”. This is what the general manager says in a message on his Twitter account, accompanied by a video in which he can be seen with the young people, talking and drinking coffee at his home.
Mari Carmen and Óscar are two young people who pick up the SMI. Today I had a cup of coffee with them at their house and we talked about their projects and concerns.
Thinking of them and so many people who need it, tomorrow we will approve the increase of the SMI to 1,080 euros. It’s a fair decision. pic.twitter.com/ZiG5qlT9o7
