Fatal mountain accident Tuesday in East Tyrol: A 33-year-old mountain guide was doing a high-altitude tour with a comrade (35) in the Glockner group when suddenly a stone came loose and the man fell about 15 meters into the rope. The local was seriously injured and had to be rescued by helicopter rope.
The two mountain guides climbed from the Rudolfshütte to the Medelzkopf and from there over the Kastengrat and over the Hohe Schneid in the direction of the Ödenwinkelwand (3326 metres) as part of the combined altitude tour.
At around 3 p.m., the rope crew was some 500 feet below the summit when a stone suddenly came loose and the 33-year-old was pinned down.
